You have to develop and acquire a strong, forceful, favorable, and successful personality to function as an effective and capable leader. An individual’s personality is made up of several factors and essentially, it depends on how the individuals reacts to situation and people and what impression and impacts he creates on others during and after the process. The person enjoying a successful personality invariably makes a favorable impression and impact he produces is forceful. Unconsciously you are influenced and waged by ideas, views and opinions of such a successful personality.
And for you too, it is fairly easy to develop a successful personality. All you need is keenness, interest and sustained effort. Let us now examine the areas to which one should pay attention for this purpose..
Although outward appearance and bearing by themselves alone do not make up the personality frame of the individual they do account for the initial or first impression. And it is always advantages to win a favorable first impression. Besides, a favorable first impression will help you to win over others easily and quickly.
“Children is talent to endure stems from their ignorance of alternatives”You will be starting with your right foot in and with a lot of advantage.Does your initial impression depend entirely and solely on your natural physical features such as your height, build, complexion, color of your eyes, substance and color of your hair, length of your muscle and so on?
A moments reflection and your experience will tell you that it is not so. It is what you do with such assets that really matter.
In your personal appearance, your dress plays a vital part. You need not have to go in for the costly, superior, dazzling and colorful attires. They need not be brand new or conform to latest fashion. But they should be clean, neat and well fitting. Good attire must fit you and it must suit the occasion. If it is a formal occasion like an interview you must dress in a formal manner. If it is an informal occasion you can dress in an informal manner. You should not appear half clad or ill clad. One should not convey the impression that he has slept in his clothes. Simplicity does not mean that you must appear in rags. Fair dress includes your footwear also. Your shoes must be polished, neat and clean. You must ensure that the shoes are not torn, the heels are not worn out and seam is not given way..
It has been rightly said, “apparel oft proclaims the man”. If your clothes are well tailored, neat and clean, they will definitely convey some favorable ideas on same apparel of your personality trait such as organization habit, systematic approach, disciplined behavior, method, neatness, carefulness etc.
Along with your dress you must also take care of your grooming. Your haircut and style should be attended to. You must go in for a hairstyle, which may enhance your appearance. Whether you should support moustaches or beard depends as to whether they will add to your personality from the appearance angle.
Next comes your personal hygiene. No bad smell should come from your mouth, body or clothes. You must ensure that your hands, fingers and nails are clean. They do influence the initial impression created by your general appearance.
“Where ignorance is our master, there is no possibility of peace”Next to clothes, our appearance is influenced by the way we conduct and carry ourselves, how we move about, walk, stand or sit down. We must stand straight and walk briskly with firm and confident steps.
Our shoulders should be pulled up and not drooping and hand held erect and not bent over toes. Always look at the other person’s in the eye with warmth and friendliness. Your eyes invariably radiate and reflect the feelings of your heart.
The next important thing that contributes a great deal for a good appearance and a favorable initial impact is cheerful, smiling and happy facial countenance. With discipline and systematic practice, you can always present a smiling face and cheerful appearance.
From your own experience you will be able to recall how you feel relaxed and happy when you meet a smiling, cheerful and pleasant person. Like your look and smile, your voice and words also have a tremendous impact on the other individual voice and words are therefore very important.
